Abstract:
PURPOSE: To refine Si compounds in an Mg alloy and improve its forgeability and mechanical properties by adding a specified amt. of Sr to an Mg alloy contg. a specified amt. of Si.
CONSTITUTION: An Mg alloy contg. ≤1.5% Si is added with 0.005 to 0.2% Sr. In this way, fine lumpy Mg2Si compounds can be produced in regardless of the cooling rate, and favorable mechanical properties and forgeability free from hot cracking can be obtd. The amt. of Sr to be added is regulated to ≥0.005%, and since if it exceeds 0.2%, the effect can not be expected, so that the above range is restricted.
