Abstract:
To provide a method and an apparatus for effectively preventing unfair use of a recording medium such as a magnetic card.
When an information signal recorded on a magnetic card 100 has been updated by an information recording updating apparatus 10, a spectrum diffusion signal corresponding to the updated information signal is generated, and it is then recorded superimposingly on the information recorded previously on the magnetic card 100 so as not to erase the old information. Since information is spectrum-diffused, it is difficult to alter the signal. Moreover, whether the magnetic card 100 can be used or not can be discriminated by considering the old information recorded on the magnetic card 100 when it is used.
