Abstract:
To efficiently insert auxiliary data in a data stream compatible with that by the motion picture experts group MPEG.
A digital device like a digital VTR receives a data stream compatible with that by the MPEG and records it. In the case of reproduction, in order to transfer the data stream to other digital device like a television receiver, auxiliary information that is packet-assembled like OSD information is inserted to a transport data stream 30 (32). A time stamp in the data stream compatible with that by the MPEG is not affected even when the auxiliary information is inserted to the data stream. A DVTR VSB modulates the data stream to provide a sufficient bandwidth to the auxiliary information in the data stream.
