Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for introducing a fatigue crack to a fracture toughness test piece.

CONSTITUTION: A soft and small test piece S having a notch F formed at the central bottom face thereof is supported at two fixed supporting points 16, 16 within a hydraulic cylinder 11 filled with an operating oil 15. A load is applied repeatedly to the test piece S from an operating fulcrum 20 while the test piece S is pressured by a piston 14. In this manner, a fatigue crack is easily introduced to the front end of the notch F of the test piece S.
