Title:
METHOD FOR JOINING CEMENTED CARBIDES
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06287611
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a cemented carbide the effectively enhanced in wettability with a brazing filler metal by removing the sintered surface of a cemented carbide by powder metallurgy and reheating the cemented carbide at a temp. lower than the sintering temp. to form a binder phase-enriched layer on the exposed surface.

CONSTITUTION: The sintered surface 4 of a cemented carbide 1 sintered by powder metallurgy and consisting of a binder phase 2 (Co, Ni) and a carbide phase 3 (TaC, TiC, etc.) is removed by sandblasting, etc. The cemented carbide 1 is reheated at a temp. 10 to 150°C lower than the sintering temp. to exude the binder-phase metal 2 on the exposed surface 1a of the alloy 1, and a binder phase-enriched layer 5 is formed in about 0.05-100μm thickness. The cemented carbide 1 efficiently enhanced in the wettability with a brazing filler metal is obtained in this way with sufficient productivity.
