Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge-determine physical strength of a grain skin of raw barley for malt production.
SOLUTION: Barley particles with the grain skin is fed into a sulfuric acid solution having 40-60% of concentration, and stirred for a prescribed time (for example, about one hour) using a stirrer bar. After the stirring, the barley particles are treated with a mixed solution of methylene blue and eosine, and a separation degree (remaining degree) of the grain skin is investigated based on a coloring degree to judge-determine the physical strength.
