To achieve a sound laser welding at low cost by eliminating the need for special jigs or devices to reduce the cost of equipment and also avoiding an increase in the number of processes, in performing laser welding of a gap defined between plate materials, even if there is hardly any gap between the plate materials or the gap is so wide.
A method for laser welding of metallic plate materials, includes: a preparation step of overlapping a first zinc-coated steel plate 11 and a second zinc-coated steel plate 12 and holding the plates; a gap adjustment step of irradiating the first zinc-coated steel plate 11 with a bending laser beam for bending the first zinc-coated steel plate 11 toward the side of the second zinc-coated steel plate 12 so as to generate a gap when there is hardly any gap between the plate materials 11, 12, on the contrary when the gap between the plate materials 11, 12 is so wide, a bent part of the first zinc-coated steel plate 11 is brought into closer to the second zinc-coated steel plate 12 to adjust the gap; and a welding step of welding the plate materials 11, 12 with each other by irradiating with a welding laser beam.
