To provide a method of manufacturing BaTiO3 powder containing substantially no coarse particle having over 0.5 μm particle diameter and having a fine particle of ≤0.3 μm average particle diameter and a c/a (ratio of length of c-axis to that of a-axis in perovskite structure) of ≥1.0088, more simply compared to a conventional one.
The method of manufacturing the BaTiO3 is carried out by preliminarily firing a metallic compound mixture which is to form BaTiO3 by firing at 700-1,000°C, adjusting the quantity of BaCO3 in the resultant intermediate fired material to 3-8 mol% per total Ba and carrying out main firing at 900-1,050°C. The method of manufacturing the BaTiO3 powder is carried out by preliminarily firing the metallic compound mixture containing BaCO3 so that the remaining quantity of BaCO3 in the intermediate fired material after preliminarily fired is 3-8 mol% and carrying out the main firing of the resultant intermediate fired material so that the powder obtained by the main firing comprises substantially only barium titanate.
