Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing citalopram at a low cost, in high yield and advantageously on an industrial scale, and a new method for manufacturing a compound (compound [III]) expressed by formula [III], which is a key compound in manufacturing citalopram.
SOLUTION: Citalopram can be manufactured by reacting a compound expressed by formula [IV] with 3-(dimethylamino)propyl chloride in the presence of at least one selected from N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine and 1,3- dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone, and a condensing agent. Further, a compound [III] can be easily manufactured through reduction and cyclization of a compound expressed by formula [II].
