To provide a fluorescent lamp having a fluorescent film uniform in thickness.
The fluorescent lamp comprises a discharge vessel of which the internal surface is formed with a phosphorescent phosphor film, and end walls for sealing an opening of a vessel body. The vessel body is constituted by deforming a single glass-made flat plate 30, and manufactured through a coating process that applies fluorescent film coating paste 26a on the upper surface 30a of the flat plate 30, a drying process that dries the applied coating paste 26a, and the like. In the coating process, blades 32 arranged so as to oppose each other at a prescribed interval with respect to the upper surface 30a of the flat plate 30 are moved along the upper surface 30a of the flat plate 30 while keeping the interval between the blade and the flat plate 30 constant, whereby the coating paste 26a fed to the moving advancing side of the blade is applied on the upper surface 30a of the flat plate 30.
