Abstract:

To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber wire capable of suppressing occurrence of Rayleigh scattering in the optical fiber and a deterioration of transmission characteristics, and an apparatus therefor.

In a spinning process for forming an optical fiber bare wire 13 by melt-spinning an optical fiber preform 11, the time until the glass forming a melt-deformed part of the optical fiber preform 11 is spun to an optical fiber bare wire 13 with an outer diameter of 125 μm in a range between a position where the tensile strength of the melt-deformed part of the optical fiber preform 11 becomes 10 MPa or more and a position where the outer diameter of the optical fiber bare wire 13 becomes 125 μm is regulated to be 0.1 second or more. In addition, in the range between the position where the tensile strength at the melt-deformed part of the optical fiber preform 11 becomes 10 MPa or more and the position where the outer diameter of the optical fiber bare wire 13 becomes 125 μm, the melt-deformed part of the optical fiber preform 11 and/or the optical fiber bare wire 13 is cooled at a cooling rate of ≤3,000°C/second.
