Abstract:

To economically and efficiently obtain an optically active 3-hydroxyisobutanoic acid ester.

The optically active 3-hydroxyisobutanoic acid ester represented by formula (2) (R1 and R2 represent each hydrogen atom or an organic residual group and * represents an asymmetric carbon) is manufactured by subjecting an α-hydroxyalkyl acrylate represented by formula (1) (R1 and R2 represent each hydrogen atom or an organic residual group) to an asymmetric synthesis reaction by using a catalyst in which a complex of an asymmetric ligand and a transition metal is fixed on a laminar compound.
