PURPOSE: To measure the unknown mass of liquid by realizing a method to determine the sum of mass of a tank and the unknown liquid based on calibration values representing the specific heat of a tank and the contents, and data on temperature rise of the tank and the contents.
CONSTITUTION: A storing tank, for example a fuel tank, is provided with multiple heaters 220a to 220f, 222a to 222f to keep temperature of a fuel. To measure temperature, multiple thermocouples 226, 228 are also provided. The calibration includes measuring the mass of the empty tank, and is accomplished by applying a measured amount of heater power or energy to the tank and its contents, and measuring the temperature rise. The product of the tank mass by the temperature rise divides the first value of the heat energy to calculate the specific energy data of the tank to determine the first calibration value. After then, the unknown mass of the fuel is determined based on the second calibration value set in the same manner as above.
