To provide a method of operating a shearing device capable of increasing the durability of the driving portions and achieving energy saving.
In this method of operating a shearing device 3 in pressing in which a blank 1a is made by cutting a long sheet 1 by the blade section 13 of the shearing device 3 and the blank 1a is pressed by a press machine 20, the blade section 13 includes an upper blade 13b and a lower blade 13a which can be turned in an integrated manner. The press machine 20 moves a press slide 28 upward and downward by a crank mechanism to press the blank 1a. A cutting cycle with which the blade section 13 cuts the sheet 1 includes a turning step A for turning the blade section 13, and a cutting step B for cutting the sheet 1. The period of the cutting cycle is followed by the period of the pressing cycle caused by the upward and downward movement of the press slide 28 by making a time required for the cutting step B constant and making a time required for the turning step A changeable.
