PURPOSE: To prevent metallic or nonmetallic substrates having corrosion resistant protective coating layers from corrosion by the micropores of this protective coating layers by coating the surfaces of these substrates with one kind of poly(p-xylene).
CONSTITUTION: The corrosion resistant protective coating layers consisting of Cr, Ti, TiN, etc., are formed by sputtering or other methods on the surfaces of the substrates made of iron and steel, alloys or nonmetals. The microscopic pores exist in these coating layers and the substrates are corroded or cracked through these pores. The surfaces of the corrosion resistant protective coating layer are treated with parylene, such as parylene N or parylene C, to penetrate the parylene into the pores in order to prevent the same, by which the infiltration of the corrosive outdoor air and liquid is prevented and the corrosion resistance of the substrates having the corrosion resistant protective coating layers additionally improved.
