Abstract:

To provide a method for producing an aromatic compound, comprising oxidizing an alkyl substituent or partially oxidized alkyl substituent-having aromatic compound in an organic solvent in the presence of a stable recyclable catalyst not containing corrosive bromide ion and not decomposed even in an oxidizing atmosphere as the catalyst.

This method for producing the aromatic compound, comprising oxidizing the alkyl substituent or partially oxidized alkyl substituent-having aromatic compound with a gas containing molecular oxygen in the organic solvent, characterized by using (A) a heterogeneous polyacid having a defective structure site and/or its salt and (B) at least one element in the groups Ib, IIb, IIIa, IIIb, IVa, IVb, Va, Vb, VIa, VIb, VIIa, VIIb and VIII in the periodic table, as the catalyst.
