To inexpensively perform strengthening treatment for only a particular part which needs strength or toughness in a light-alloy die-cast member, with a simple device and for a short treatment time.
This partially strengthening method comprises rapidly heating and melting only a particular part 6 to be strengthened in the die-cast member 5 consisting of the light alloy such as an aluminum alloy, by causing an arc discharge 7 in the part 6 with the use of a direct current type TIG (tungsten inert gas arc) welding machine 1, and then rapidly cooling the part, to refine and homogenize a structure of the part 6, and improve the strength or toughness. The method can employ not only the arc discharge but also a laser beam, plasma, an electron beam, or the like. When the aluminum alloy is employed, addition of Cu, Mg and the like to the alloy as a solution component, in remelting, can further enhance the strength or toughness. The objective method enables treatment to be performed more inexpensively and in a shorter time than the solution heat treatment.
