Title:
METHOD FOR PASSIVATING REACTIVE COAL CHAR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2733048
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a stable coal char to prevent spontaneous ignition by thermally decomposing coal, passivating the decomposition product by was of thermal decomposition and then oxidatively, and hydrating and cooling the resultant passivated char.
SOLUTION: Coal is thermally decomposed by gradually heating it to a temp. high enough to vaporize low-boiling volatile substances to remove them from coal to thereby form coal char and high enough to make part of high- boiling volatile substances mobile to partially break micropores in the char. The coal char is cooled to a temp. low enough to passivate the volatile substances in the partially broken micropores, thus being passivated by way of thermal decomposition and forming char contg. 14-22wt.% high-boiling volatile component. The formed char is fluidized by introducing it into a reactor wherein a process gas contg 3-21vol.% oxygen is flowing, thus being oxidatively passivated by the chemisorption of oxygen. The char is then hydrated and simultaneously cooled to form a stable coal char contg. 5-10wt.% water.
