PURPOSE: To provide a method for polishing a roll used to improve the surface gloss of a metallic plate.
CONSTITUTION: This is a method for polishing a roll surface through rotation of the roll 1 while the side surface (peripheral surface) of the cylindrical grindstone 3 and the surface of the roll 1 are brought into contact with each other and the rotated grindstone 3 is moved relatively in the axial direction of the roll and the surface of a rolling work roll is polished while ≥80°C is given to an angle θ between a rotating speed vector VR of the roll and a vector VO indicated by the following expression. VO=VT+VF-VRo, where VT is rotating speed vector of grindstone, VF is relative moving speed vector in direction of roll axis of grindstone, VR is rotating speed vector of roll. In this way, uniform polished marks can be given to the surface of the roll, consequently, form defects such as twist, edge wave, center buckle are not generated by the use of this roll and a metal plate high in glossiness can be produced.
