Abstract:

PURPOSE: To accurately predict the leakage of a molten steel by making an optical pulse incident on an optical fiber embedded at the back of lining in a tundish and specifying temp. variation generating position.

CONSTITUTION: The optical fiber 18 is embedded at the back of the lining in the tundish 10 and the optical pulse is made incident on the optical fiber 18. Then, based on intense ratio of Stokes light/anti-Stokes light in scattered light returned back to the incident side, the variation of temp. is detected, and also based on the return-back time of this scattered light, the temp. variation developing position is specified. By this method, since the optical fiber 18 is embedded over the whole range in wall of the tundish 10, even if the sign of the leakage of the molten steel during operation is developed at any position, the leakage of molten steel in the whole tundish 10 is surely predicted.
