PURPOSE: Water is added to the crude hydrocarbon recovery fraction which is obtained by air-oxidation of cumene followed by sodium hydroxide treatment to extract organic sodium salts into the aqueous phase, thus collecting phenol without scaling in the distillation column.
CONSTITUTION: The oily feed 1, which is obtained by air-oxidation of cumene and treating the product with sodium hydroxide, is combined with water 2. Then, they are mixed by means of a line mixer 3 to extract organic sodium salts into the aqueous phase, subsequently the solid substances are removed with a filter 4 and the water in the emulsion form is settled and separated in the oil- water separator 5, then drained from the line 7. The resultant hydrocarbon recovery fraction is fed through line 6 to the distillation column 8 for hydrocarbon recovery where distillation is effected to collect the objective compound.
