Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a 2,4-dimethyl-6-tertiary alkylphenol which can selectively be produced from a mixture of 2,4- dimethylphenol with 2,5-dimethylphenol in a high yield.
This method for producing the 2,4-dimethyl-6-tertiary alkylphenol comprises reacting the mixture of the 2,4-dimethylphenol with the 2,5- dimethylphenol with a tertiary alkene in the presence of a Lewis acid-based catalyst and then isolating the produced 2,4-dimethyl-6-tertiary alkylphenol.
