Abstract:
To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing 3,4,5-trifluorobenzyl alcohol useful as a raw material or an intermediate for drugs, agricultural chemicals, and other organic compounds.
The method for producing 3,4,5-trifluorobenzyl alcohol comprises subjecting a 2,3,4,5-tetrafluoroaromatic ester compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R is a 1 to 10C alkyl group) and a metal hydride to reduction and defluorination by bringing them into contact in the presence of an organic solvent.
