To provide a method for producing acrylic acid, by which the highly pure acrylic acid can profitably be produced from crude acrylic acid obtained by a catalytic gas phase oxidation method, while sufficiently removing impurities such as aldehydes, ketones and maleic acid compounds and simultaneously inhibiting the production of sludge.
This method for producing the acrylic acid, characterized by subjecting an acrylic acid-containing oxidation product solution obtained by a catalytic gas phase oxidation to an azeotropic dehydration treatment and then distilling the obtained crude acrylic acid in the coexistence with a hydrazine compound, while controlling the total concentration of maleic acid and maleic anhydride in the crude acrylic acid to ≤2,000 ppm.
