Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing alcohol, in which raw material olefin having 2 or more carbon atoms is reacted with hydrogen and carbon monoxide to produce the corresponding alcohol with high straight chain selectivity at an inexpensive catalyst cost.SOLUTION: The method for producing alcohol comprises a step of reacting the raw material olefin having 2 or more carbon atoms with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a specific bidentate organophosphorous compound-derived ligand and an iron or ruthenium complex having the structure shown by formula (b) (in which M is iron or ruthenium; Rto Rare each H, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, a hydroxy group, an amino group, an amido group, a perfluoroalkyl group, a trialkylsilyl group, an acyl group, a phosphino group, a carboxy group or the like; X is a hetero atom-containing linking group) and in the absence of a rhodium compound.
