To provide a method for producing allyl alcohol that can efficiently produce allyl alcohol by directly hydrolyzing the reaction mixture from the allyl acetate production process without the pretreatment process for purification or separation.
In the presence of a catalyst that is prepared by allowing the catalyst components including alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal compounds, an element in the group 11 of the periodic table or at least one of compounds of the elements and palladium to be supported on the carrier, propylene, acetic acid and oxygen are allowed to react one another in the vapor phase to produce allyl acetate [the step (1)] and the allyl acetate obtained in the step (1) is hydrolyzed in the liquid phase to produce allyl alcohol [step (2)]. In this case, the conversion rate of the acetic acid that is used as a raw material in the step (1) is kept at ≥ 60 %.
