To provide a method for producing an aromatic acetylene that can use an inexpensive, readily available raw material and can produce the aromatic acetylene with a reduced amount of the catalyst in high yield in the coupling reaction between an aromatic halide and an acetylene compound in the presence of a palladium catalyst.

In this method for producing the aromatic acetylene, a mixture of water with a water-miscible organic solvent is used as a reaction solvent and a aromatic halide, for example, bromothiophene or bromoaniline is allowed to react with an acetylene in the presence of a palladium-phosphine ligand catalyst, a copper salt and a base.
