Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a corresponding alcohol at a high selectivity by selectively hydrogenating a carbonyl compound.
SOLUTION: The carbonyl compound represented by formula (I) (wherein R1 and R2 are each independently H, a saturated or mono- or polyunsaturated, linear or branched, optionally substituted 1-20C alkyl group, an optionally substituted aryl group, or an optionally substituted heterocyclic group) is subjected to selective liquid phase hydrogenation in the presence of hydrogen and a Pt/ZnO catalyst to produce the corresponding alcohol represented by formula (II) (wherein R1 and R2 are each the same as described above).
