To provide a method with which geranylgeraniol and the analogous compound can inexpensively be produced in a large amount by using a microorganism having the ability producing geranylgeraniol, farnesol and nerolidol useful as a biosynthetic intermediate of terpenes, carotenoids and steroids.
This method for producing the geranylgeraniol and the analogous compound thereof is characterized by culturing yeasts (ascomycetous yeasts or deuteromycete yeasts), bacteria, actinomycete and filamentous fungus capable of producing the geranylgeraniol and the analogous compound thereof in a culture medium, making the microorganisms generate and store the geranylgeraniol and the analogous compound thereof inside and outside thereof and collecting the compounds.
