To provide a method for manufacturing a slurry which is excellent in dispersion stability and where heavy calcium carbonate can be finely pulverized with easiness.
A dispersant for the wet pulverizing step for heavy calcium carbonate which comprises a polymer (A) consisting of at least a kind selected from the group consisting of a (meth)acrylic acid (co)polymer, a (meth)acrylic acid-(meth)acrylic acid salt copolymer and a (meth)acrylic acid salt copolymer is used. The (meth)acrylic acid salt unit in (A) consists of an alkali metal salt unit of 49.9-99 pts.mole, an alkaline earth metal salt unit of 0.1-10 pts.mole and an ammonium salt unit of 0-10 pts.mole, and accounts for 50-99 number% based on the number of all monomer units composing (A). The method for manufacturing the heavy calcium carbonate slurry involves a wet pulverizing step to pulverize heavy calcium carbonate having a volume mean particle diameter of Y μm to that having a volume mean particle diameter of 0.0002Y-0.5Y μm and 0.9-1.5 μm by using the above dispersant.
