To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a hot dip plated metal strip by which the defect of buckling in a metal strip can be suppressed while preventing the defect of quality and the reduction of operation efficiency caused by the deposition of dross or the like.
The method for producing a hot dip plated metal strip comprises a plating deposition stage where a metal strip S is dipped into a hot dip metal bath 2 and is coated with a molten metal, and thereafter, the direction of the metal strip S is changed by a sink roll 3 as an only roll contacted with the metal strip S in the hot dip metal bath 2, so that the metal strip S is pulled up outside the hot dip metal bath 2; a coating weight control stage where the surplus molten metal applied to the metal strip S is wiped away with wipers 4, and the coating weight thereof is controlled; a control stage where the shape and/or vibration of the metal strip S is controlled with electromagnets 5 in a non-contact state in the lower direction and/or the upper direction of the wipers 4; and a bending stress impartation stage where stress in an amount exceeding yield point elongation is imparted to the surface layer of the metal strip S with bending stress impartation rolls 6a provided in the upper direction of the wipers 4 and the electromagnets 5.
