Abstract:
To provide a modified polyphenylene ether which has less emulsion formation and less reduction in modification rate in a step of reducing residual impurities, especially chlorine components, generated in a step of modifying a polyphenylene ether and removing the impurities.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a modified polyphenylene ether which comprises the following steps (a) to (d): (a) a modification reaction step of carrying out a modification reaction of the hydroxyl group of the polyphenylene ether in a solution containing a polyphenylene ether, a modification group raw material containing chlorine, a catalyst, an amine and a solvent, (b) a recovery step of recovering the modified polyphenylene ether from the solution after the modification reaction step, (c) after the recovery step, a redissolving step of redissolving the recovered modified polyphenylene ether in a solvent, (d) after the redissolving step, an impurity removal step of washing the redissolved modified polyphenylene ether solution with water or an aqueous solution to remove impurities containing a chlorine component.SELECTED DRAWING: None
