Abstract:

To provide a method for producing optically active 1,2-disubstituted-2,3- dihydroxypropanes useful as synthetic intermediates for agrochemicals or the like.

This method for producing the optically active 1,2- disubstituted-2,3-dihydroxypropanes represented by general formula (2) (wherein A is a 2-substituted indane-1,3-dion-2-yl group, an alkyl group or a haloalkyl group; and B is an aryl group which may be substituted) comprises subjecting 2,3-disubstituted-1-propenes represented by general formula (1) (wherein, A and B have same meanings as defined before) to asymmetric dihydroxylation.
