Abstract:

To provide a method for producing an optically active β-aminoacid derivative in high yield and high stereoselectivity by asymmetrically hydrogenating a 3-aminoacrylic acid derivative at a low hydrogen pressure without using an expensive asymmetric ligand.

An 3-aminoacrylic acid derivative is asymmetrically hydrogenated by the catalytic action of a complex of an optically active bis(alkylmethylphosphino)-ethane or an optically active bis (alkylmethylphosphino)-methane which can readily be prepared with a transition metal, particularly an optically active bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)ethane- rhodium complex or an optically active bis (tert-butylmethylphosphino)methane- rhodium complex.
