To provide a method for producing platy ceria particles capable of producing platy ceria particles having high monodisperse capacity, an average primary particle diameter of a sufficient size (e.g. 20 μm or more) and high brightness.
The method for producing platy ceria particles contains a process for obtaining a mixed liquid by mixing a cerium nitrate solution and a sodium hydrogencarbonate solution in a solvent containing water so as to make cerium concentration to be 0.008-0.15 mol/L and sodium concentration to be 0.1-0.4 mol/L, a process for obtaining platy cerium carbonate octahydrate particles of single crystal having an average primary particle diameter of 20-100 μm and an average thickness of 0.2-4 μm by precipitating and growing cerium carbonate particles by maintaining the temperature of the mixed liquid within the range of 10-75°C for 20 hours or more, and a process for obtaining platy ceria particles by calcining the platy cerium carbonate octahydrate particles.
