Abstract:
To provide a method for producing a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), by which the PBT having qualities equal to or higher than those of a PBT obtained from terephthalic acid or dimethyl terephthalate as a starting raw material is obtained.
The method for producing the polybutylene terephthalate comprises transesterifying bis(2-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate with 1,4-butanediol in the presence of a transesterification reaction catalyst under 1-54 kPa at 200-230°C final temperature and then subjecting the reaction product to condensation polymerization.
