Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING SEMI-FERRITIC STAINLESS STEEL STRIP FROM MOLTEN METAL AND APPARATUS THEREFOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0623491
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of austenite when a semi-ferritic stainless steel strip is produced from molten metal.

CONSTITUTION: In an ingot mold for continuous casting having two cooling rolls 2 disposed by mutually facing so as to demarcate a casting space and rotating mutually in the reverse direction, the metal is solidified and the solidified metal strip 3 is continuously drawn out from the ingot mold and such sufficiently quenching as to prevent the generation of austenite is executed by bringing the strip into contact with a quenching medium 6 at the lower side of the ingot mold. The cooling medium is formed as quenching bath held in a container having a passing-through holes 5 for the solidified strip 3 at the bottom part positioned at the lower side of the rolls, or liquefied inert gas is jetted onto the cast product with a nozzle. In this way, since the obtd. steel strip scarcely contains martensite in the ferritic matrix, the shearing and the coiling can easily be executed at the last stage in the casting process.
