To provide a new method for producing acylated compounds of tocol and tocopherol.
The method for producing a tosyl acylate and a tocopheryl acylate includes reacting tocol or tocopherol with an acylating agent in the presence of a solid heterogeneous Broensted acid catalyst, wherein the catalyst is an inorganic Broensted acid supported on a solid support material comprising silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide or both of silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide or an organic functional polysiloxane characterized by sulfo groups, and in addition, the solid heterogeneous Broensted acid catalyst is characterized with about 10 to about 800 m2/g BET surface area and about 0.1 to about 2.0 mL/g pore volume. A mainly available form of vitamin E, (all-rac)-α-tocopheryl acetate, can be produced by acylating (all-rac)-α-tocopherol.
