Abstract:
To provide a method for purifying glyoxal by which a hardly discolored aqueous solution of the glyoxal not containing ethylene glycol is obtained in high yield.
The method for purifying the glyoxal comprises passing the aqueous solution of the glyoxal containing the ethylene glycol, especially the aqueous solution of the glyoxal obtained by oxidizing the ethylene glycol through a packed bed of a resin powder having ≤90 nm pore diameter, and fractionating a glyoxal fraction by passing water through the packed bed at a space velocity (SV) of ≤5.
