PURPOSE: To purify rabies virus in high yield in high purity, by adsorbing rabies virus on cellulose sulfate gel, and eluting it.
CONSTITUTION: Crystalline cellulose or cellulose consisting of crystal region and amorphous region is sulfated to give cellulose sulfate, a cellulose sulfate gel is packed into a column, a buffer solution (e.g., 0.14M NaCl added 0.01M phosphate buffer solution) having 5.0W25.0ms/cm specific conductivity at 0W30°C at 7.0W8.0pH is passed through the column and it is equilibrated. A rabies virus- containing solution having 5.0W25.0ms/cm specific conductivity at 7.0W8.0pH is passed through the column, the rabies virus is adsorbed on the column, the column is washed with the buffer solution having 0.5W5.0ms/cm specific conductivity, a buffer solution having 5.0W25.0ms/cm specific conductivity at 5.0W 9.0pH is passed through the column, so that the rabies virus is eluted.
