Abstract:
PURPOSE: To identify and record commercial broadcasting data in real time without depending on the insertion of particular codes or the like by constructing a signature to a broadcasting segment.
CONSTITUTION: A local facility 21 scans the video and audio signals of television broadcasting. Then, if a potential new and unknown broadcasting segment is detected, a frame signature and a temporal signature to the unknown segment are generated and stored. The stored signature is transferred to a central facility 221 via communication channels 23a and 23b for identifying. If the unknown frame signature data coincides with the signature of a wide-area database, the central facility 221 sends back the wide-area signature to the local facility 21 of the origin. The local facility 21 of the origin substitute the temporal signature locally generated for the wide-area signature.
