PURPOSE: To provide an extracting method for recovery of zinc from a base metal-contg. geothermal brine.

CONSTITUTION: A first insoluble org. extraction solvent having a selective property to extract of zinc is brought into contact with the brine. Zinc is selectively extracted in the form of a zinc chloride aq. soln. from the org. extraction solvent and, if necessary, the pH value of the zinc-contg. aq. soln. is adjusted to a concn. at which the soln. to extract the zinc is adjusted by a second org. extraction solvent. Further, the zinc-contg. extraction solvent is formed by using the second insoluble org. extraction solvent having a selective property to extract of zinc and extracting zinc from the aq. soln. Zinc is removed from the zinc-contg. extraction solvent by using an ample amt. of sulfuric acid. Further, zinc is electrolytically collected from an electrolyte to form substantially pure zinc.
