PURPOSE: To make it possible to select toolings in conformity with the shape of a workpiece upon machining, by standardizing and systematizing the elements constituting the toolings, and by registering the elements in an external memory device in an computer assist system as a data base.
CONSTITUTION: When a workpiece is machined, which requires a combination of 2 plurality of toolings, elements constituting the toolings are standardized and systematized, and are then registered in an external memory device 10 in a computer assist system as a data base. Further, by reading the shape of the workpiece, an interference check may be automatically carried out. Further more, without the knowledge of NC language being required, it is possible to automatically select toolings for an NC machine tool. AS a result, it is possible to greatly reduce the time for preparing an NC tape and as well to reduce the actual NC mechining time.
