To provide a method for separating a mixture of hydrocarbon isomers in a vapor phase on molecular sieves and capable of isolating a desired purified product in a high yield for each cycle.
The method for the vapor-phase separation of a mixture of hydrocarbon isomers on a molecular sieve contains (a) a step to supply the isomer mixture to the 1st adsorption column to adsorb the isomer fraction having high selectivity to the molecular sieve, (b) a step to supply the effluent of the 1st adsorption column to the 2nd adsorption column and discharge a stream containing an isomer having low selectivity to the molecular sieve and a desorption agent, (c) a step to supply the desorption agent to a desorption column and discharge a stream containing a highly selective isomer and the desorption agent, (d) a step to supply the stream from the 2nd adsorption column to a distillation unit for the recovery of the desorption agent and (e) a step to supply the stream from the desorption column to another distillation unit for the recovery of the desorption agent. The steps (a), (b) and (c) are carried out by using three stages and columns of the number of a multiple of 3 and each having a fixed molecular sieve bed. As a result, these columns are successively and selectively varied from the 2nd adsorption column to the 1st adsorption column and then the desorption column according to the stages.
