PURPOSE: To eliminate the need of generating the information of system constitution again when changed system constitution was adopted in the past even if the system constitution is changed.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of newyly setting up information related to a system constitution in the data processing system having a nonvolatile memory 7 for storing the information of system constitution also after turning off a system power supply, the newly set information is stored in a prescribed area of the memory 7 and stored also in a 2nd non-volatile memory 9 such as a display storage device different from the memory 7 or an area other than the prescribed area of the memory 7. When a change in the system constitution is detected in a self-diagnosis or the like when the system power supply is turned on, whether information coincident with the information of current system constitution is stored in the memory 9 or an area other than the prescribed area of the memory 7 or not is retrieved, and when the coincident information is stored, the corresponding information is transferred to the prescribed area of the memory 7.
