PURPOSE: To stabilize the shape of a PVA filament web without deteriorating the physical properties of the web by heat-treating the web to temporarily bond the crossing point of the filaments and applying a binder to the heat- treated web.

CONSTITUTION: The shape of a PVA filament web is stabilized by subjecting the web to a hot calender processing at the upper and lower roll surface temperature of 80-120°C and a linear pressure of 3-20kg/cm to effect the temporary bonding of the crossing point of the filaments, applying a binder resin liquid to the treated web and drying the liquid. This process enables the application of high performance characterized by excellent strength, weather resistance, water absorptivity and heat-insulation to the nonwoven fabric made of the filaments.
