To significantly reduce spoilage when printing is restarted after its suspension.
An ink is introduced by an ink transfer roller 8 which is reciprocated between an ink fountain roller 8.1 and an ink roller 8.2 and the intermittent motion of the ink transfer roller 8 can be suspended. Further, introducing an initial sheet into a printing press is started in accordance with the operating state of the ink transfer roller 8. In the method for starting the production run by a printing press dealing with sheet as described, especially by a sheet-fed offset printing machine, the selection of the operating state of the ink transfer roller 8 is determined depending upon the operating state of the ink transfer roller 8 when the last sheet is introduced into the printing press prior to the suspending of printing in order to initiate the introduction of the sheet when resuming a continuous operation.
