Title:
METHOD FOR SUPPRESSING VORTEX OF MOLTEN STEEN IN TUNDISH IN CONTINUOUS CASTING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS56154268
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the slag on the surface from being included into molten steel and improve the yield of molten steel by acting a rotating magnetic field opposite to the vortex at nozzle inlet when the molten level in a tundish lowers below a prescribed value.

CONSTITUTION: Iron cores 7 wound with coils 8 are disposed around the root of a tundish nozzle 4 thereby forming a rotary magnetic field generator 6. When the molten metal level 1a in a tundish 3 lowers below the prescribed level, 3-phase AC is conducted into the coils 3 to stir molten steel 1 in the direction opposite to its vortex. Since the inclusion of slag 5 in the molten metal is prevented by the above method despite lowering of the molten metal level 1a below the prescribed level, the yield of the molten steel is correspondingly improved.
