To provide a method for obtaining a biphenyl compound in a high yield by a cross-coupling reaction using an organobismuth compound and an aromatic iodine compound, and a heterogeneous Pd/C catalyst which can be separated and recovered from the product by only simple filtration and is also easy to reuse.
A method for synthesizing a biphenyl compound is characterized by reacting a triphenyl bismuth with an aromatic iodine compound in an inert gas atmosphere by using N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solvent, a heterogeneous palladium-supporting carbon catalyst (5% palladium carbon powder K type, 10% palladium carbon powder K type, 20% palladium carbon powder K type or the like, made by N.E. Chemcat Corporation) as a catalyst, 2,2'-biquinoline, and cesium fluoride.
