Abstract:

To provide a method and a system for automatically adjusting a follow-up distance of a vehicle selected based on a road surface friction coefficient in an adaptive speed control system for the vehicle.

A method for automatically adjusting the follow-up distance includes a process for determining a road surface friction coefficient based on the driving wheel speed of a vehicle, and a process for adjusting the follow-up distance of the vehicle selected based on the road surface friction coefficient. An automatic follow-up distance adjusting system 10 includes a receiver for receiving the signal showing the driving wheel speed of the vehicle and a control unit for determining the road surface friction coefficient based on the driving wheel speed and for adjusting the follow-up distance of the vehicle selected based on the road surface friction coefficient.
